Removals, Clearances and Packing.

  • Can I move on a Weekend or Bank Holiday?
We are able to carry out your removals at any time that is convenient to you, different days and times may carry a premium to reflect the extra cost of staff.
  • How long will my Removals take?
There are several factors that affect the time it takes to complete a removal. The obvious ones are the amount of goods and the distance they are moving. Some may be less obvious but are just as important. Simple things like having to park ten feet further from your house due to parked cars or lack of accessibility can severely change the time it takes to load or unload on the day. Try to inform us of anything that may happen or be different on the day of your removal, even if it does not seem that important. Give us a call and we can give you an idea of an estimated cost. We will then be round to view your property to give you a more accurate quote.
  • What size Van will I get?
We have two Luton Low Loaders which are large in space, yet suitable for most rural areas. We also have a Balingo which is ideal for those smaller jobs. The space can also take a couple of 8ft narrow items like doors for example. When you call to discuss your Service we will advice which van would be most suited to your needs. If a survey has not been carried out, we will use the information that you have provided us with to calculate which van is required. As long as you have been honest then it will still be our responsibility to get it right. See our "Choose your Van" page for more information. Take a look at our "Removals Service or Man with a Van?" Blog for more information of what service to choose from.
  • What size are Removal Boxes?
Most removal companies use a variety of boxes however there are three main types we use, a book box, a general purpose box and a large box. General Box 18″ x 18″ x 18″ and is mostly used to pack all general items, but where you think it may be too heavy pack it out with soft furnishings. Book box is 18″ x 12″ x 12″ to restrict its weight and is suitable for heavier items not just books. All boxes should be double walled ensuring that extra durability when carrying your items. Take a look at our Packing Pack for more information and prices.
  • Can you pack my stuff and supply the materials?
We can provide you with everything you need for moving house and are happy to give you a quote included with your Removals. Alternatively take a look at our Packing page which will inform you of the packages and prices available.
  • Will a Man and Van do as it's not far to go?
We do get calls from people who have been let down by man and van companies on the day of their removal. We will have a chat with you to ensure that you get the service that you need. Be careful of Man and Van as they tend to be a Man with a Van where you load the items on your self and they simply take your belongings to your destination where you unload. Clarify this with your Service provider to ensure this is what you want, if you expect them to help you load and unload there may be an extra charge. Take a look at our Blog "Removals or Man and Van" for more information.
  • What should I look for in a Removals Company?
Take a look at our Blog "If I were looking for a Removals Company". This will tell you what we here at Afordable Services have to say in response.
  • How many quotes should I get?
Well in the past we have moved a few times and have always got at least three quotes. Not only on the phone but when you meet the Movers you can get a feel for the company and their ethos. This is why we started a Removals Company, because the service was so varied it was a very difficult decision to make. Moving home a few times myself, we noticed that with the big companies, you'r never dealing with one person. On the day of your move you've dealt with about four different people. Man and Van can be hit or miss. Unmarked vans and hire vans can mean they aren't an established company. Do they really have the insurances they claim to have? Are they going to look after my belongings? Not all man and van companies have up to date information on social media so you can check their history and reviews. This is why I feel passionate about creating a smooth move to the best of my ability and ensuring the client is happy with their service. We will always give you a fair price alongside a personal and professional moving service from start to finish. Take a read of our Blog "If I were looking for a Removals Company" to find out more. Take a look at our "Removals or Man with a Van" Blog for more information on the difference between the two services you my expect when getting quotes in.

On the day - empty fridge and put into a cool bag and pack the last few essentials.
  • How much will my removal cost?
There are many factors that are taken into consideration when calculating the price, distance, size of vehicle, access and packing are just some of the obvious ones. Always try to get your property viewed to avoid any doubts, getting a quote over the phone does work but is not as reliable as a survey. We only give quotations, not estimates. Try to avoid being given estimates by other companies as their final bill may be larger than you expected and can increase on the day.
  • Are my goods insured?
Yes, your goods will be covered by insurance during your removal up to £10,000 per van. Always read the full details of the terms and conditions. Your Removals company should always be insured to some degree. You will able to see wheather they are insured for your possessions on any quotation that comes your way. If you want to find out exactley what sort of removals insurance is included within the price, then ask your service privider to confirm.
  • What items can the Removals not take?
Generally any flammable liquids or gases even if contained cannot be submitted for removal. Paint and oil cannot be transported either due to the high risk of damage to your goods should they leak. There are other items that cannot be moved, like firearms, ammunition and drugs. For a full and detailed list of exclusions, request and read the terms and conditions.
  • How much notice is needed to book my Removals?
Household Removals are usually booked between 7-14 days before the expected move takes place. Please always try to give as much notice as possible. Do not fully book your removal until you are sure everything is in place with the sale and purchase of your house, cancellation charges may apply if not discussed and pre-arranged.
  • Can you dismantle and reassemble my furniture?
Unless this was agreed in the quote, all items needing dismantled are expected to be done and ready to move before the we arrive. If agreed in the quote, we will carry out the dismantling and reassembly as agreed. It is essential that you say what is required at the quotation stage to allow for the necessary time and equipment to be provided.
  • Can you empty my loft?
Unfortunately not. Please ensure that you have removed everything from your loft and it is all suitably boxed up before we arrive on the Removals Day.
  • Do I have to empty the draws?
As long as there are no heavy or breakable items left in drawers then it is usually ok to leave them full. Some types of furniture like self assembly units don’t travel well and it is advised that you empty these completely. As long as the furniture itself is sturdy and the draws come out then items like clothing and bedding can and should be left in.
  • Can I pack myself?
Yes is the simple answer. If you do your own packing, use boxes that are a suitable size and strength. Make sure you seal all your boxes as well, open top boxes like banana boxes make it impossible to safely stack your goods in the van. Always find out how packing your own boxes affects your insurance, most companies will only recognise damages if the box has been dropped or crushed. If you are unsure or struggling to get suitable boxes, we can supply you with what you need.
  • What time will the Removals team arrive?
Generally we start work between six and eight o’clock in the morning. We aim to be at your address between 8:30am and 9:00am in the morning. If you are moving long distance we will liaise with you and give you an estimated time of arrival. Sometimes, for many reasons we can be delayed however we will always arrive. We like to move you within the sociable hours between 9am to 5pm, giving you time to settle into your new home.
